News and updates from CyberScotland and our partner network

CyberScotland Week is nearly here!
Next week (24 February – 2 March) is CyberScotland Week, when people, businesses and communities all over Scotland will hold events and share information to raise awareness of cyber security and, ultimately, strengthen our collective cyber resilience.
This year’s theme, Can’t hack it!?, is about everyday actions we can all take to improve our cyber resilience.
It’s not too late to register your CyberScotland Week event on our dedicated portal.
Last week, we shared a roundup of events being held by CyberScotland Partners. Here’s a snapshot of even more events happening during CyberScotland Week.

World-leading proposals to protect businesses from cybercrime
UK businesses are set to be protected by new world-leading ransomware proposals to tackle the threat of cybercrime, which is estimated to cost the UK economy billions of pounds every year. Businesses are being called upon to share their views in the consultation on ransomware, which is open until 5pm on 8 April 2025.

Local councils to be given access to national SOC service
Local councils across Scotland will be able to access a national security operations centre (SOC) service that provides ‘round-the-clock’ threat detection and monitoring to prevent cyberattacks. A market engagement exercise has begun to find a private sector supplier for a centralised resource that protects local authorities from a range of cyber exploits including malware, phishing, ransomware and data exfiltration.
The CyberScotland Bulletin is a monthly roundup of news and updates on cyber security and resilience with a particular focus on Scotland. Feel free to forward it to anyone in your network who might benefit from it.
Please ensure you only take information from trusted sources. The NCSC has a useful glossary of cyber terms you may wish to reference while you read the bulletin.
