In 2022, Derbyshire County Council’s Education Data Hub launched a funded a two-year cyber security project aimed at improving cyber resilience in LA maintained schools. This was to be achieved through user awareness, cyber security training for all school staff and governors, a comprehensive assessment of each individual school’s cyber security posture, and provision of a gap analysis report and action plan when mapped against the DfE Cyber Security Standards for Schools and Colleges.
Now, approaching the end of the project, the UK Cyber Security Council will be looking at:
- Cyber resilience in the education sector
- Changing the security culture in already overburdened schools
- The efficacy of live vs recorded cyber security training
- The main barriers to risk mitigation in cash strapped establishments
- Recommendations to others looking to improve cyber resilience on a shoestring budget
