Police Scotland launches CyberAlarm
CyberScotland Partner Police Scotland has urged businesses in Scotland to sign up for its new Police CyberAlarm, a free digital tool which allows users to see and understand malicious cyber activity targeting their businesses.
Lead Scotland to host cyber resilience webinar for trustees
To mark Trustees Week 2024, CyberScotland Partner Lead Scotland is hosting an hour-long Cyber Resilience for Trustees webinar on 4 November. Registration is free.
NCSC Cyber Advisor scheme reaches milestone
The NCSC’s Cyber Advisor scheme has welcomed its 100th advisor. The consultancy service, which helps small businesses to achieve a baseline level of cyber security as defined by Cyber Essentials, marked its first anniversary earlier this year.
SC3 strategic plan launched
The Scottish Government has launched a new three-year strategic plan for the Scottish Cyber Coordination Centre (SC3). SC3’s vision for 2027 is to become a focal point for Scotland’s cyber security and resilience, providing services to help protect against and respond to the accelerating and evolving threat of cyber attack while promoting adherence to appropriate standards and best practices across critical functions and infrastructure.
YoungScot launches youth insight survey
CyberScotland Partner YoungScot is seeking responses to its annual youth insight survey, covering a range of issues facing young people, including online threats and cyber crime. The survey is open to 11-25 year-olds living anywhere in Scotland, and participants can choose to be entered into a draw to win a pair of Apple AirPods.

UK and allies expose Russian attacks
The UK and international allies have issued a joint advisory exposing a unit of Russia’s military intelligence service for carrying out a campaign of malicious cyber activity targeted at government and critical infrastructure organisations around the world.
Nearly half of UK businesses lack basic cyber security skills
The UK Government has published the findings of its annual ‘Understanding the UK cyber security sector and labour market’ survey, which aims to inform future policy. This year’s survey found 44% of businesses have a basic skills gap, although the number of cyber security graduates has increased by a third year-on-year.
UK data centres given cyber resilience boost
The UK Government has announced the country’s data centres are to be designated as Critical National Infrastructure, a move which means their operators will be given greater government support against critical incidents including cyber attacks.
TfL services impacted by cyber attack
Transport for London (TfL) is dealing with an ‘ongoing cyber security incident’ which has seen the operator suspend some of its payment and live information services in an attempt to secure its systems.
